One of our main goals for our week in Limon was to build a house. It was really hot & hard work, but SO rewarding. This community is such a sad place, and really made is realize what an amazing place we live in. It really makes the bad neighborhoods here look amazingly good.
When we arrived on Monday morning, this was the progress on the house so far. The foundation border was laid, and about 6 rows of blocks high on two sides. We immediately got a crash course on how they mix their concrete {in the middle of the road: 7 buckets of sifted sand, 1 bag of concrete & water, then mix with shovels}. So some got started on that, others started unloading trucks of concrete blocks, and then we got started.

All all times, there was a small {or large} gathering of kids from the neighboring houses there to watch, help, get snacks, etc. We really loved having them around, and formed some special bonds with them.

We would go back to the "bodega" at for lunch & to cool of and rest for a bit. It was H.O.T. & that first day none of us did a very good job at taking frequent water & rest breaks. We were starting to drop like flies!
Back to work...

Actually, we were sweating so much that no one really needed to go. ha!

The sweet lady in the middle {in the black} is who the house was being built for. She stopped by one afternoon when the rest of the group was already at VBS.
Don't you love our scaffolding? Yikes! I spent lots of time up there.
I could do that job, but there was no way I could lift the heavy buckets of concrete all the way up there.

The guy on the right is Santo. He was our boss man all week! He was awesome, and we all just fell in love with him! He was such a hard worker, and taught us so much Spanish! He also wanted to know how to say everything in English. Such a sweet guy, and he ran the show!

After reading this it just made me even prouder of you and what your group was able to do! I loved all the pictures and yet...I am not so sure I loved what you were standing on! :) Yikes! Good job little brick layer!
